Stormy Daniels Arrested; Lawyer Claims 'Set-Up'

Newser — Arden Dier

Stormy Daniels was arrested at an Ohio strip club early Thursday after allegedly violating an "obscure" state law, per CNN—though her lawyer claims it was a set-up.

Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, was believed to have been performing at Columbus strip club Sirens when she "was arrested for allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage in a nonsexual manner" during a "sting operation," her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, tweeted Thursday.

Under Ohio law, a dancer at a sexually oriented business is barred from touching anyone but a family member when nude or semi-nude.

Noting Daniels was "performing the same act she has performed across the nation at nearly a hundred strip clubs," Avenatti referred to the arrest as "a setup & politically motivated" and promised to fight the "bogus charges." Daniels was released from custody after posting $6,054 bail and is to be arraigned at 9am Friday in Franklin County Municipal Court, per CNN.

Daniels, who is suing President Trump in regards to a $130,000 payment she claims to have received in exchange for her silence about an alleged 2006 affair, has said she was previously threatened in a parking garage, per the New York Daily News.
